DataBook for OS/2 down – for the last time?
It appears that my DataBook(TM) for OS/2 apparently is down for the last time. It died sometime before yesterday afternoon. I have no idea exactly when as I had not looked at it for several days.
The DataBook for OS/2 is (or perhaps was) a compendium of Warp information. It contains technical data ranging from the architecture of Warp and how it works, to error code listings with detailed explanations of their causes and how to correct them. The DataBook for OS/2 Warp includes information about all versions of Warp including Warp 3, Warp 4, and Warp Server. The DataBook for OS/2 Warp covers installation and use of all Warp versions as well as troubleshooting, problem solving techniques, power users tips, recovery techniques, and recommendations for OS/2 tools and software based upon my many years of experience with OS/2.
It had been running on a 700MHz Pentium III computer whose parts ranged in age from eight to twelve years old. It used Lotus Notes 4.6 and Domino as the web server. Unfortunately, although nothing in the book has changed in years, all of my backups date back to hardware and software that is long dead itself and no longer available. The only medium I had left that was supported by OS/2 was diskettes and due to the size of the database required for the DataBook for OS/2 that was pretty impractical.
I had been looking for a way to crawl through all the pages and capture them onto one of my Linux boxes and had actually figured out pretty much how to do that last week. Too bad I did not get around to trying it before yesterday.
I will try to resurrect it one last time and attempt to move the data to another box.
