Computers 101
Everyone uses computers today — well, almost everyone. So we assume we know about them just because we use them. For many people, that’s enough.
But some of us need to know more about how computers work beyond the obvious, “turn it on, move the mouse, and bash the keyboard,” sort of knowledge. Some of us are just curious and others want to know so that they can be programmers, system administrators (SysAdmins), testers, cybersecurity experts, or whatever.
The pages in this section will help you understand more about how computers work, both the hardware and the software. We’ll look at some history of computing, as I think that is an important base on which to build our knowledge. We’ll look at how modern computers work, and then explore operating systems.
