Fedora 44 was released today. I’ve already upgraded my primary workstation and am in the process of upgrading the rest of my systems as I write this.
The Upgrade
The upgrade went well Except for one problem. The first try on my workstation produced an error indicating a conflict with the kdnssd-avahi package. I don’t use Avahi so removed that package which resolved the problem. All the other hosts I’ve upgraded so far have had no problems during the upgrade itself.
You can find upgrade instructions here.
If you haven’t installed Fedora yet, you can download the USB live images here. I suggest the Everything image because it has the most flexibility while also offering the easiest install.
First impressions
I use the Xfce desktop and I’m seeing no differences whatsoever. That consistency is a good thing for users because it makes the upgrade essentially invisible to them.
Almost everything is working as expected, however, the upgrade turned off the mic in my Corsair headset. All I needed to do to fix that was to turn it back on using the Volume Control app. So far I’ve had only this one trivial operational issue.
