Book Update
I’m working on Chapter 19 of the 3rd Edition of my 3 volume “Using and Administering Linux” self study series. Chapter 19 is about Filesystems and it’s already a long chapter.
I’m adding more about the GUID Partition Table (GPT). That involves adding a new graphic and a new experiment. Much of the additional information had been available here on Both.org for some time. I’m integrating it into the existing context of Chapter 19. Renumbering the figures and experiments, and the references to them in the text, has been a hassle, but well worth it.
This is also causing me to learn much more about GPT and the use of gdisk, which is much like fdisk on the old MBR partition table system. In fact, most of the gdisk commands are identical to fdisk, and it works the same way. If you’ve used fdisk, gdisk will be completely familiar.
This chapter, already over 60 pages, is pushing the limits of reasonable size, but all this material belongs together. I’m also trying very hard not to split any already large chapters as that would make renumbering everything down the line for the rest of the 57 chapters in this work, a nightmare.
I try to write in the mornings and mid-afternoon as those seem to be the best time for me. If I get on a roll, I just push on through until my energy levels are depleted.
